Patrice Lespagnol, 52, who had the Romanian operations of Carrefour French giant over the past three years run, took over the reins of the Greek subsidiary and will be replaced by Francois-Melchior De Polignac.
Lespagnol is taking over a business of almost 2.7bn euros, Carrefour's sales in Greece and Cyprus, countries where the French retailer has 521 stores.
What are Lespagnol's achievements on the domestic market?
Lespagnol became Carrefour Romania's CEO in April 2008, when the economy was still booming. 2008 was also the best year for the company, as turnover hit 1.19bn euros, up from 866m euros in 2007, with a total 40 stores.
Shortly after he arrived, the Romanian economy entered recession, consumption started declining and Carrefour's revenues entered a downward trend. However, Lespagnol further expanded the network, but primarily focused on the supermarket segment, so that at the end of his term he leaves behind a 58-store network.
Another move Lespagnol made was to give up Carrefour Express brand last year for Carrefour Market, under which all the group's supermarkets are currently operated.
Carrefour has reached a 35-supermarket network in Romania, from 19 in late 2008, and in the same period the French retailer also opened two hypermarkets, getting to a total 23 stores, in the wake of investments put at some 60m euros.
