Turkey's Pegasus Airlines low-cost airlines, which owns a 30 Boeing plane fleet, is set to introduce five weekly flights on the Bucharest-Istanbul route starting May 16. The company is currently flying to 100 destinations and has been looking at the Romanian market since last year, when the company's representatives came to talk with the officials of Henri Coandă airport of Otopeni.
"We're about to complete all operation formalities for Pegasus Airlines to enter Otopeni airport," stated Valentin Iordache, a spokesman with Compania Naţională de Aeroporturi Bucureşti, which manages the two Bucharest airports.
Pegasus Airlines is promoting the 49.9-euro fare for a trip on the Bucharest-Istanbul route on its website. The company's representatives could not be contacted by edition close. Data on turnover and number of passengers Pegasus transported last year are not available.
With the five weekly flights it announced on its website, Pegasus Airlines will enter direct competition with Turkish Airlines and Tarom.
