C&A apparel retailer, one of Europe's biggest players, which currently owns 8 stores domestically, has included Romania and Croatia on the list of priorities in terms of store openings and announces it is poised to double domestic sales space in two years.
"We want to double the sales space we have in Romania in the next two years," said Benedikt Lauck, marketing manager for Austria, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia during C&A's annual conference held to announce financial results.
For the time being, though, the retailer's Romanian business is among the smallest in the region, considering the company in 2009 reported 7.9m-euro turnover, namely an average 2.6m euros per store, with no store having operated for more than eight months.
"We want to reach 5-7% market share in Romania in the next five years," Lauck also said, without specifying, though, any sales targets or the number of stores to be opened.
With such a market share, C&A's sales are likely to hit 150m euros in five years, according to ZF's calculations taking into account the value of the fashion market announced by Euromonitor: 2.9bn euros in 2015.
