La Fantana, the biggest watercooler bottler on the Romanian market, has appointed Mihai Matyas, former manager of the Pepsi producer, as general manager of the Romanian subsidiary.
Matyas, 53, replaces Polish-born Jaroslaw Zuchowski, who ran the company in the first year since its takeover by investment fund Innova Capital. Matyas was general manager of bottler Quadrant Amroq-Beverages (QAB) between 1999 and 2004, and then investment and development vice-president until 2007, when he left to work in the consultancy business, shortly after the company was fully taken over by giant Pepsi Americas. He is among the top-ranking managers trained at QAB who chose to leave the company after its integration into Pepsi Americas.
Over the last few years the former Pepsi manager carried out consulting projects for plants in the drinks and foods industry, having the Pepsi bottler in Bulgaria among its clients.
La Fantana posted a 17 million-euro turnover last year on the Romanian market, down by around 15% against 2008, and a market share put by ZF at over 50% on the watercooler market segment.
