Dumagas Transport, a freight shipping company with turnover put at 40m euros this year, has expanded its range of operations over the past year, by investing over 4m euros in a logistic centre in Craiova.
Dumagas Transport is part of Dumagas group, with turnover worth above 60m euros last year, according to the company's representatives.
"Our storage-handling activity started during the middle of last year, following requests by the customers of our shipping services. We are planning to set up our own network of warehouses and logistic centres across the country in the coming years," said Mihai Dugaesescu, the administrator and a shareholder in Dumagas.
By late 2007, the company wants to open a warehouse covering a 1.5-hectare area in Craiova, including a 4,500 square metre built area. Besides this logistic centre under development, Dumagas owns a 3,000 square metre storage space in Bucharest, which it intends to expand to 8,000 square metres by yearend.
This year, Dumagas Transport has budgeted turnover worth around 40m euros, up from 24m euros last year.
The company provides both internal and international shipping services, in European states such as the United Kingdom, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and the Baltic states.
Dumagas's fleet includes over 400 heavy trucks and 300 subcontracted vehicles.
The company currently operates road freight shipping services, with the weight of freight transported under special conditions equalling the transportation of general freight in terms of value. The company's representatives are not ruling out entrance on other shipping segments, such as river or rail transportation, however, a decision has not been made yet. If the company entered the rail transportation market, Dumagas would compete with players such as Grup Feroviar Roman and Servtrans Invest.
