The total number of people working for the top 30 IT&C employers climbed by 1,382 (over 3%), to 41,142 particularly in the wake of hiring operated by companies such as Nokia or Alcatel Lucent.
The number of employees in telecom companies remained relatively constant against 2008, falling to 33,529 in 2009 from 33,902 in 2008.
The biggest employers in Romania's IT&C industry are Romtelecom and RCS&RDS, which have over 16,000 employees together.
Romtelecom, ranking second on the domestic fixed Internet market and third on the TV market, last year carried out the most sweeping restructuring programme among the top 30 IT&C employers, making more than 1,000 people redundant on average.
Orange, leader of the domestic telecom market, also cut its number of employees, mainly after outsourcing its phone support services for individuals.
