BitDefender, one of the leading local IT companies, posted 24.7 million euros in turnover last year, up 40% against 2008, according to the balance sheet submitted by the company to the Trade Registry. The company controlled by Florin and Mariuca Talpes posted a 2 million-euro gross profit, compared with 170,000 euros in 2008, according to the same source.
Softwin, another company held by the Talpes family, however, posted 62% lower turnover, 3.6 million euros, and a 1.4 million-euro gross loss.
Trade Registry data also reveal a major expansion of Chinese supplier of telecom equipment and services Huawei. The company reached a 28.8 million-euro business last year, and an average 267 employees in Romania.
The Romanian branch of rival Nokia Siemens posted 5.5 million euros in turnover in 2009 compared with 13.4 million euros in 2008, whilst gross losses amounted to 1.2 million euros.
