Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer is hiring 12 software specialists in Iaşi, where it will open a new development centre in September.
The online retailer intends to double the number of employees in Iaşi over the next two or three years, who develop applications for the company exclusively.
According to the company's website, two of the available jobs are for software testers, while the rest for developers. The online retailer rented 1,400 square metres of space in the Palas complex in Iaşi developed by Iulius Grup to install its new offices.
"Amazon's Romanian software centre opened in Iaşi five years ago, relying on the talent of the specialised workforce. We will now expand operations in the country and hire more well-trained personnel in Iaşi," said Lucian Vornicu, manager of Amazon Development Centre Romania.
On the other hand, Mihai Postolache, the vice-dean of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Science of the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University in Iaşi says the main employer in city, especially of students, is component manufacturer Continental Automotive. Another important player in the IT field in Iaşi is Romanian security solution developer BitDefender, who has about 70 employees in the city.
