Autoliv car part producer projects turnover worth 301m euros (1,267m RON) for its two plants of Romania, up 10% from a year ago. In 2009, a milestone for the entire global car industry because of the falling demand and new car production, the Swedish group saw its Romanian turnover rise by 70m euros to 275m euros, in the wake of the transfer of some production contracts from other European facilities to facilities in Brasov and Lugoj. "(...) Now, with over 3,000 people Romania holds the biggest production platform of the group," stated Ionel Fierbinteanu, general manager of Autoliv Romania. In 2009, even as orders in the car part industry dropped, Autoliv returned into the black, having reported a net income of almost 7m euros. For this year, the company's representatives expect a threefold profit increase to 22.1m euros in parallel with a turnover advance. The company's representatives explained that they preferred the Romanian locations owing to productivity and lower wage costs. In the past two years, Autoliv has invested another 34m euros in Romania and this year budgeted investments amount to 13m euros.
