Germany's LIDL & Schwarz wants to send between 90 and 100 young Romanians to Germany and Croatia to include them in an internship programme, so that, when they return they should take over the reins of the stores the group is set to open in Romania.
The retailer owned by LIDL & Schwarz group, which also operates Kaufland discount hypermarkets in Romania, has 25 plots of land ready to build the first LIDL stores in Romania, according to the information provided by local authorities. Cities where works were started include Suceava, Iaşi, Brăila, Arad, Timişoara, Caracal and Piteşti.
"Lidl is doing in Romania what it did in Croatia, Sweden and Germany: it uses a kind of 'instruction manual' for each employee as they need employees familiar with the company's culture. Between 90 and 100 young Romanians seen as 'high potentials' will leave for Germany or Croatia for a period of at least six months, so that when they come back they should be able to take over the helm of stores," say recruitment market sources.
LIDL representatives did not comment on the information regarding employee training.
