Signer of the ordinance, former Finance Minister Sebastian Vlădescu says a "natural" confrontation has emerged between clients' interest for a lower cost and banks' interest for profit, and positions will be balanced off gradually.
The hundred million euros in losses banks would suffer after the endorsement of Ordinance 50 on retail loans are an exaggeration and there is no question of any lending institution leaving Romania because of this law, Vlădescu states.
"I signed this ordinance as a minister and I agree with the rules it sets. I believe saying banks will suffer major losses is an exaggeration, the ordinance has been operational for several months and I haven't seen anybody leave because of it. I do not believe such a thing will happen, either," Vlădescu told ZF.
He believes the current tensions between bankers and their clients are just a "natural" confrontation between the two sides' interests.
