Generali, one of the top ten insurers on the Romanian market, ended the first half of the year with 234.4 million RON (56.5 million euros) in gross underwritten premiums, down 4.4% against the similar period of last year.
On the other hand, the company's net profit doubled, to 18.9 million RON (4.6 million euros) at the end of June.
The turnover decline in the first six months of the year was prompted by the trend of the general insurance segment, with underwritten premiums down by 5.7%, to 189.1 million RON (45.6 million euros), because of the decline of comprehensive auto insurance, which fell by 17%, to 80.8 million RON.
"Unfortunately, comprehensive insurance continues to be affected by the significant decline of the auto and of the leasing market. We are trying to offset this via attractive promotional campaigns for new products, as well as for existing products," says Marie Kovarova, general manager of Generali Asigur`ri.
