Lists of the incomes earned by the employees in the public sector continued to be published on the official websites of institutions yesterday, making anomalies in the salary payment system obvious.
For instance, Health Minister Attila Cseke can be regarded as a poorly paid official, if comparing his April income with that of the ministry's deputy secretary. The minister's salary slip shows 5,361 RON, while his subordinate made almost twice that amount, 9,739 RON. The general secretary of the ministry was paid 7,693 RON. In all, the Health Ministry has fourteen employees that earn more than Minister Attila Cseke does.
Four of the drivers employed by the ministry earn over 2,000 RON, much to the envy of the employees of other ministries, such as those at the Environment Ministry. A low ranking specialist's salary there starts at 498 RON and reaches 823 RON, while a driver earns 1,080 RON. The highest salary in this Ministry is Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely's, who makes 5,361 RON, as do his fellow Cabinet members.
The publication of such lists, however, is too small a step to unravel the maze of public sector salaries.
