The big players on the courier market, UPS, DHL, and DPD (formerly Pegasus), say their turnovers were up by up to 20% in the first nine months of the year amid an increase in parcel deliveries abroad.
"The volume of parcels delivered by road to Germany, France, Spain, Italy and other countries have doubled against 2009. International deliveries will contribute around 10% of this year's turnover, compared with a little under 5% a year ago," said Sorin Ghinescu, marketing manager of DPD.
In the first nine months of this year, the volume of parcels delivered by DPD rose by 20% against the similar period of last year, on a market put at 200 million euros, with other players being TNT, Fan Courier, UPS, TCE, DHL, and others.
UPS Romania, a part of American giant UPS, also reported a 20% rise in the volume of parcels delivered compared with the similar period of last year.
"Deliveries to and from Romania saw DHL International achieve a two-digit rise in the first nine months of the year against the similar period of last year," said representatives of DHL, which acquired local company Cargus in 2008.
