Orange and Vodafone, the biggest telecom operators on the domestic market, which have around 5 million clients for mobile data services together, have lately intensified offers focusing on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, in a bid to gain new profit sources, and also attract new customers. Vodafone, for instance, has been conducting an advertising campaign focusing on Facebook since the end of last year, and yesterday announced it was the first operator in Romania to offer users the possibility of receiving via SMS the messages other users publish on Twitter. Orange has also recently announced some clients would be able to access Facebook, Netlog and MySpace social networks from their mobile phones free of charge. Cosmote has also started promoting, through TV spots, some mobile phones that have access to Facebook, but the operator is expected to strengthen its presence in the area of social networks after having also launched 3G services.
