The agreement whereby IBM Romania will operate OMV Petrom's data centre for ten years practically amounts to an investment by the American company on the local market, which will enable IBM to expand its range of products, Mihai Tudor, the company's general manager, told ZF.
"This agreement shows IBM's intentions and actions to expand its businesses on emerging markets. The agreement with Petrom is another expression of the interest and of the level of investments that IBM is involved in on emerging markets, Romania included, although this is a time of crisis when few companies boost their number of experts and their investments," Tudor said.
The data centre is located within Petrom City, the new 100 million-euro office project, which will accommodate the employees of the biggest company in Romania, with over 2 billion euros in turnover in the first half of this year. The contract is not an outsourcing one and does not entail an employee transfer from Petrom to IBM, Tudor explains.
