The Regional Development and Tourism Ministry (MDRT) is tendering modernisation and rehabilitation works for 1,386 km of county and local roads of eight counties, with the total estimated value of these projects amounting to 1.78bn lei (436.6m euros), VAT not included.
Thus, on average, one kilometre of county or local road, modernised or rehabilitated, will cost 315,000 euros, VAT not included.
The eight counties included in this tender, divided into four packages, are Covasna, Braşov, Caraş Severin, Mehedinţi, Brăila, Galaţi, Tulcea and Constanţa and the works are expected to be completed in 2013.
The investments are part of the National Infrastructure Development Programme estimated at around 3.3bn euros, the biggest tender in Romania's history in terms of value.
Unlike other infrastructure works, the programme will be initially funded by builders and starting 2013 the future governments will cover the value of works as they are finalised.
