George Enescu Festival, the BCR Open tennis tournament and the Black Sea Energy Forum due to start in a few days, are bringing at least 2,000 foreign tourists to the five-star hotels in the capital city over a span of about four weeks, boosting the occupancy rate of hotels by 30% above this year's average. The revenues of JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, Intercontinental and Radisson Sas from these events could exceed 1.4 million euros, according to the calculations of ZF, which took into account an average rate of 175 euros per night and an average four-night stay.
"We're starting to feel an increase in occupancy rate because of the events held at this time. We are currently operating at an 86% occupancy rate, because of the tennis tournament and of other events," said Dina Litzica, PR and marketing manager of five-star JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel. This is the first time in the last few months when Marriott has revealed its occupancy rate, yet its officials did specify that the 86% was due to current events, and was not representative of the entire year.
JW Marriott operates 402 rooms and ended last year with 17.1 million euros in losses, while turnover stood at 38 million euros, according to the data available on the Finance Ministry's website.
On the other hand, the George Enescu Festival, one of the most important cultural events held in Bucharest this year, brought almost 1,000 guests to the Intercontinental Hotel since the 30th of August until 26th of September when it ended.
"Violinist Nigel Kennedy and cellist Yo Yo Ma, who came together with the Silk Road orchestra, conductor Charles du Toit and the "Les Ballets de Monte Carlo" are just some of the names that stayed at Intercontinental Hotel since the beginning of the festival," stated Dana Chiriac, marketing and PR manager of the Intercontinental Hotel.
