The price for a week's stay at a five-star hotel in one of the leading resorts on the Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, and Cypriot seaside starts from 600 euros and can exceed 2,000 euros, according to a ZF analysis.
Five-star hotels in Mamaia resort on the Romanian seaside are almost twice as expensive as the hotels in the best-known Bulgarian resort, Golden Sands, and charge similar prices to five-star hotels in Santorini (Greece) and Paphos (Cyprus).
"It is normal for five-star hotels on the Romanian seaside to charge higher tariffs compared with similar hotels in other resorts abroad, due to the fact that our offer is rather limited, with only a few hundred rooms in five-star hotels, and with there being enough demand," said Mircea Vladu, owner of travel agency Prestige Tours.
In Mamaia, a seven-day stay at a five-star hotel costs between 1,400 and almost 2,000 euros, nearly double as much as a similar stay in luxury hotels on the Bulgarian seacoast.
On the other hand, a holiday at luxury hotels in Greek resort Rhodes, one of Romanians' favourite destinations, costs a few hundred euros more than a holiday in Bulgaria, between 1,300 and 1,400 euros per stay (accommodation only).
