Companies operating in the field of electricity distribution, and particularly those that have been privatised, last year reached net income margins of around 40%, much higher than the ones registered by companies operating in the field of mobile telephony or cement, traditional leaders in terms of profitability.
Moreover, according to a ranking sent by the National Office of the Trade Registry, it was the same energy companies and especially those in the field of electricity last year sat on piles of cash.
Sums registered for the cash at bank and in hand indicator in 2009 stood at hundreds of million euros, with available cash being much higher than the one accumulated by Dacia, Romgaz or Nuclearelectrica.
On the other hand, though, state-owned electricity distributors have margins of between 2-4%, below those reported by electricity distributors now included in private portfolios.
