"In Bucharest, a little more than one million nights spent in categorised accommodation units were registered", National Statistics Institute (INS) representatives say.
At ZF's request, the Institute sent data related to the number of tourists registered in Romania's biggest cities, such as Bucharest, Constanţa, Braşov, Timişoara, Cluj-Napoca and Iaşi. By edition close, the institution did not send data linked to the number of visitors of Sibiu, a major touristic barometer for Romania.
Each tourist that arrived in Bucharest booked one or two accommodation nights in January-July period. The Bucharest market can accommodate 12,400 in hotel rooms, according to a survey by Trend Hospitality. Bucharest hotels may have generated 47m euros in the first seven months of the year, according to ZF estimates. Revenues are largely derived from business travel.
While Bucharest leads in terms of the number of arrivals and spent nights, amid business traffic, Constanţa ranks second, but because it receives tourists on holiday.
Only Braşov and Bucharest received more tourists than last year. Another two cities analysed by ZF, Cluj-Napoca and Timişoara, attracted fewer tourists in January-July period.
