Ana Pan confectionery shop chain, controlled by businessman George Copos, has budgeted 5.5m-euro turnover for this year, flat from 2009, after last year turnover derived from this field shrank by 15% in euros, with the final figure standing a little below the 2005 level. "We've been more cautious in drawing up budgets this year and this is why we forecast flat turnover compared with 2009. Still, we hope for a slightly increase in demand for bakery products in the second half of the year," stated Carmen Friptu, general manager of Ana Pan confectionery shop chain. The chain's profit margin also narrowed, from almost 9% in 2008, according to the company's representatives who chose not to reveal the 2009 profit. Ana Pan operates 25 confectionery shops in Romania, 19 of which it owns and the rest are franchised. Carmen Friptu says the chain's plans include countrywide expansion, in large cities, and moving some shops to larger spaces.
